CBE JU programme overview and country participation dashboard

The updated CBE JU overview and country participation dashboard provides an interactive view of the geographic distribution of participants in CBE JU and BBI JU-funded projects across EU Member States and associated countries. It also features a brand-new map visualisation of the flagship biorefineries and demonstration plants.

The tool allows users to visualise data by country and to explore information on projects and participants, including the locations of flagship biorefineries and demonstration plants developed under projects funded by CBE JU and its predecessor, BBI JU. 

General overview

  • The dashboard showcases CBE JU’s key statistics, including  the number of participants, countries, SMEs and BIC members, as well as the total CBE JU contribution. It allows users to search for participants and see which projects they contribute to. It also includes a map showing the locations of flagship biorefineries and demonstration plants. 
  • The dashboard is interactive. On pages with multiple visualisations, selecting an element, such as a bar in a chart or an item on a map, filters the other data according to your selection.
    • To clear all applied filters, click “Reset selection” or “Remove filters” in the top-right corner.
    • To return to the home page, click the house icon in the top-right corner. 
    • To navigate between report pages, use the arrows in the top-right corner. Alternatively, return to the home page and select another page from there. 
       

Getting started

  • On the home page, select the section you would like to explore by clicking the relevant button. You can navigate between sections using these buttons or the arrows in the top-right corner.
  • Each page allows you to filter the data by type of action, project status and funding call. Some pages also include additional filters for other relevant categories.
  • Countries without flagship biorefinery projects are shown as grey dots on the map.

Information used in the programme overview and participant pages is based on the data extracted from CORDA in June 2026. Terminated projects are excluded. The data used in the map visualisation were collected from annual reports submitted by funded Innovation Action projects, including flagship projects.The data on BIC membership are provided by the Bio-based Industries Consortium. More information on the type of membership are available on its website. 

  • Participants are any individuals or organisations involved in a research project including both beneficiaries (article 7 of the MGA) and affiliated entities (article 8 of the MGA).
  • Small and Medium Enterprise statistics are based on a self-declaration in the Funding & Tender Portal (SME self-assessment tool) and include only entities validated as ‘private company’ or ‘other’ by the central validation centre. SMEs are defined in the EU recommendation 2003/361 and Document 32003H0361R(03)
  • Upgraded industrial flagship plants are existing facilities owned by project partners and retrofitted to accommodate the new technology.
  • New industrial flagship plants are purpose-built industrial plants designed from the ground up to operate at an industrial scale. 
  • Existing demonstration plants are facilities already owned or operated by project beneficiaries and are used to scale up technologies and increase production capacity.
  • New demonstration plants are newly built installations designed specifically for demonstration purposes. 
  • Please note that a project may involve more than one facility or site. This is particularly common for Innovation Action projects.
