Navigating bioeconomy projects with the CBE JU dashboard

Publication date:

The CBE JU country & organisation participation dashboard is a new interactive tool designed to offer a clear and accessible overview of how EU member states and associated countries are involved in BBI/CBE JU projects. Bringing complex data to life through dynamic visuals and intuitive navigation, this dashboard provides project details like type of action, funding data and a geographic breakdown of project participants, making it easy to identify which countries are involved in which type of bio-based initiatives. Whether you’re a policymaker, researcher, or industry stakeholder, the tool helps you understand national participation levels, biorefinery locations or project specific details.

Each element of the dashboard is interactive: clicking on a chart segment or map icon dynamically filters the other visuals to reflect your selection, providing a tailored view of the data. It also uses official Horizon Europe terminology and classification standards, ensuring consistency and accuracy across data sets.

Key features:

  • Maps participation by country: it displays which EU member states and associated countries have participants in BBI/CBE JU-funded projects.

  • Shows project details: provides the number and types of projects per country, participant roles (like coordinator or partner), and categories such as SMEs or Bio-based Industries Consortium ( BIC) members.

  • Provides funding insights: users can view how much funding each project receives and how it’s distributed across different types of actions (e.g. research, innovation, flagship projects).

  • Enables data filtering: shows information directly through charts and maps by selecting criteria such as country, project type, feedstock, application, and more.

By translating complex project data into engaging visuals, the dashboard offers an interactive way to explore the geographical footprint of BBI/CBE JU projects, and highlights regional strengths, gaps, and opportunities within the EU bioeconomy.

This is the first interactive dashboard developed by CBE JU, but additional tools with different data will follow. It marks a significant step toward making bioeconomy data more accessible, actionable, and impactful, fostering transparency and data sharing.
