CBE JU has published the latest edition of 'A competitive bioeconomy for a sustainable future', its annual publication highlighting the joint undertaking’s achievements and the growing impact of Europe's circular bio-based economy. This year's edition puts the spotlight on measurable progress across Europe's bio-based industries: from next-generation biorefineries to novel sustainable materials entering the market.
Since 2014, CBE JU has driven bio-based innovation across Europe by supporting 243 projects involving 1,860 participants from 46 countries. SMEs represent 38% of all participants, while universities and research organisations account for 24%, demonstrating the partnership's broad and diverse innovation ecosystem as well as its role in technology transfer and scale-up.
The numbers tell a compelling story: more than €1.45 billion in investment has been mobilised, with every €1 of EU funding attracting €3.65 in private investment. This effect is even more pronounced at higher technology readiness levels, where flagship and demonstration projects have leveraged around €5.20 in private investment for every €1 of EU support.
Together, these results illustrate CBE JU's ability to transform public investment into long-term private-sector engagement, accelerating the transition towards a competitive, resilient and sustainable European bioeconomy.
