  • RENEWCHEM offers a disruptive, patented technology that converts bioethanol into long-chain alcohols as sustainable substitutes for petrochemical products, addressing the demand for cost-effective, carbon-negative solutions across various industrial applications.
  • SOWISE PLUS is building a flagship industrial biorefinery for the largescale production of bio-based and fully biodegradable PHBV polymers, using urban organic waste streams, including postconsumer absorbent hygiene products. The project will deliver a circular and industrial alternative to fossilbased plastics, supporting Europe’s transition towards a sustainable biobased economy.

Innovation actions (IA)

  • AIM-PACE will combine AI, microbial technology, modelling and polymer science to turn Europe-sourced biogenic CO₂ and residual bio-based streams into safe, sustainable and circular plastics. The project will develop new PHA materials for packaging and wearable or electronics applications, including disposable electrocardiogram electrodes, wearable bio-signal monitoring housings, sustainable pill boxes, as well as films and trays for industrial electronics.
  • ALGANOVA aims to produce food proteins and functional ingredients from microalgal biomass, cultivated using agro-marine by-products and COwaste streams as substrates.
  • BIG-ALGAE will develop four cultivation methods for five macroalgae species, within land-based and offshore systems, and advance production of new algae-based products in the food, feed, cosmetics, textiles and packaging sectors.
  • Bio4PURConti is pioneering the first continuous production of bio-based aniline, a key platform chemical, from lignocellulosic sugars, offering a sustainable replacement for traditional petrol-derived chemicals.
  • IRIS will advance sustainable textile processing by scaling bio-based dyes derived from forestry and agriculture sidestreams, reducing environmental impact while ensuring compatibility with existing manufacturing.
  • MycoStruct will develop whole-cut meat alternatives by fermenting structured mycelium with corn-based sugar and agricultural by-products from maize, potato, and alfalfa.
  • PHACTUS aims to scale up a first-of-its-kind continuous process converting urban organic waste and wastewater sludge into biodegradable polymers (i.e., polyhydroxyalkanoates – PHAs) for construction, agriculture, and packaging.
  • PROSCALE will turn food industry sidestreams such as potato, wheat, and vegetable residues into sustainable fungal, yeast, and bacterial proteins for food applications, as well as for feed and biogas applications in a cascading approach, using circular, low-waste fermentation processes.
  • SALINA aims to transform seaweed into five innovative, high-value products for food, cosmetic, and biomaterials sectors in local coastal marine biorefineries, helping strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in the growing macroalgae industry across regions.
  • SUPREME-PILOTS will develop high-performance, bio-based polylactic acid copolymers using European feedstocks, and validate these sustainable materials in four key industrial pilots: sports equipment, urban furniture, resilient flooring, and industrial signage.
  • TEX4GREEN will create and scale safe-and-sustainable-by-design bio-based textile solutions from lignin and industrial sidestreams, creating sustainable coatings, surfactants, and dyes for sportswear, interior textiles, and fashion.

Research and innovation actions (RIA)

  • BioCordelia will design, develop, and validate innovative, safe and sustainable controlled-release fertilisers from forestry residues.
  • CHIHIRO aims to transform local guayule waste into sustainable rubber and bio-based elastomers, reducing Europe’s reliance on imported natural rubber while supporting a resilient, circular supply chain.
  • FIBRIX will develop and demonstrate a decentralised, modular biorefinery concept for the selective separation of cellulose and lignin from underutilised forest biomass, enabling their conversion into high-performance bio-based materials, including textile filaments, carbon fibres, and 3D printing feedstocks.
  • GREEN will create sustainable, biodegradable fertiliser delivery systems that improve how crops use nutrients while supporting soil health, using renewable plant-based materials as feedstock.
  • RELEASAFE will develop biodegradable, bio-based fertiliser coatings made from underutilised biomass and industrial sidestreams, enabling precise nutrient release, protecting soil health, and supporting more sustainable farming across Europe.
  • ReTREEaSURE will transform underutilised forestry residues, such as branches, treetops, bark, and leaves, into biopolymers, sustainable packaging, leather alternatives, and bioactive compounds. T
  • RUBBIO will create sustainable, scalable, and high-performance rubber materials from starch-rich food waste, using sugars for microbial fermentation to promote the decarbonisation of the rubber sector.
  • V-FOREST will develop innovative woody biomass transformation processes tailored for producing bio-based cosmetic ingredients through decentralised, containerised, and small-scale unit approaches. This strategy will significantly enhance value chain performance, resource efficiency, and the preservation of biodiversity and forest health.
