
The newly appointed ten members of the CBE JU Governing Board met today to take key decisions on the first steps of the partnership. The Board elected its Chair and Vice-Chair, as well as established its rules of procedure and adopted a list of decisions to be carried over from BBI JU, among other topics discussed during the meeting.
The Governing Board is the main decision-making body of CBE JU. Its tasks include supervising the implementation of CBE JU’s objectives, adopting its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, as well as its yearly work programme and budget, and approving the annual activity report of CBE JU.
Both CBE JU founding partners, European Commission and BIC, each put forward five representatives for the Governing Board. During today’s first meeting, Mr John Bell, Director for Healthy Planet in DG Research & Innovation and representing the European Commission, was elected as the Chair of the CBE JU Governing Board. Mr Mat Quaedvlieg, Vice-President Strategic Business Projects at Sappi and representing BIC, the private partner, was elected as the Vice-Chair. Mr Bell and Mr Quaedvlieg were elected unanimously to serve a two-year term.
In addition to adopting its Rules of Procedure, the CBE JU Governing Board also adopted a number of decisions taken under the BBI JU which will carry over to the CBE JU, approved a decision on the selection process for the members of the Scientific Advisory Body, as well as discussed the future outlook.
