CBE JU supporting EU priorities

CBE JU’s activities aligned with EU’s policies in the the bio-based sector

  • The updated EU Bioeconomy Strategy is expected for the end of 2025. The new strategy will focus on strengthening EU’s leadership in the bioeconomy by fostering innovation, reinforcing sustainability and circularity, and supporting market uptake of bio-based solutions.

  • The European life sciences strategy places strong emphasis on the bioeconomy and bio-based innovation, with actions directed towards strengthening the EU's global leadership in biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and the bio-based sectors.

  • The EU Startup and Scaleup Strategy aims to position the EU as the best place in the world to start and scale global technology-driven companies. The strategy is very relevant for the CBE JU-supported bio-based sector, one-third of which is currently driven by small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

  • The EU’s Clean Industrial Deal is a roadmap for a range of policies to accelerate Europe’s reindustrialisation and decarbonisation. This initiative supports strengthening industrial competitiveness while achieving the EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050, a goal shared by CBE JU with the partnership’s continuous support to scaling up bio-based industries in Europe.

  • The European Commission’s Vision for the future of agriculture and food in Europe aims to create a competitive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food sector by 2040. CBE JU is contributing to this transformation by creating new revenue streams and business opportunities as well as bio-based solutions to the European farmers and encouraging sustainable farming practices.

  • The European Ocean Pact is a framework designed to safeguard ocean health while fully leveraging Europe’s maritime assets. Among its measures, it promotes the blue bioeconomy, with a focus on sustainable algae cultivation and the valorisation of by-products from aquaculture. Over the past decade, CBE JU has supported projects that scale up circular bio-based solutions in the aquaculture sector, laying the groundwork for this large-scale initiative.

  • The European Chemicals Industry Action Plan recognises bio-based chemicals as a strategic pathway for achieving climate neutrality, industrial decarbonisation and circularity in a key European sector. This reinforces the relevance of CBE JU’s investments in scaling up circular and renewable chemical production across Europe.
