SURFs UP has developed a bathroom-cleaning formulation using biosurfactants produced from second-generation biomass. The feedstocks include hardwood sugars, lignin from wood waste and regional food-processing sidestreams.
The formulation demonstrates the use of renewable surfactants in home care as an alternative to fossil-based surfactants. It forms part of the project's work to scale biosurfactant production and demonstrate cleaning formulations at pilot-to-industrial scale.
