The CBE JU founding partners, the European Commission and BIC, have set out the partnership’s priorities in the CBE JU Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for the 2022-2030 period. Delivery of innovative bio-based solutions will be the key priority of the partnership, along with a strong focus on the EU’s environmental goals and support to local economies. CBE JU will implement the SRIA via its annual work programmes.
The European Commission released the EU Bioeconomy Strategy progress report last week. The document recognises the central role of CBE JU and its predecessor, BBI JU, in deploying and strengthening the bio-based industries in Europe. The report qualifies the public-private partnerships as ‘the most ambitious research and innovation initiatives in the European bioeconomy.’ It also summarises the advancements in the European bioeconomy since 2018 and identifies the gaps for future action plans and initiatives.
Today CBE JU published its Annual Work Programme, including information about the 2022 call for project proposals. A total of €120 million will be dedicated to advance competitive circular bio-based industries in Europe across 12 topics. 15 members of the newly appointed CBE JU’s Scientific Committee held their first meeting today to elect the advisory body’s Chair and Vice-Chair and agree on the rules of procedure.
The European Commission published today the EU strategy for sustainable and circular textiles, which sets the goals for a carbon-neutral and circular textile industry. Since 2014, CBE JU-funded projects have been bringing to the market innovative bio-based textiles that increase the industry’s environmental sustainability.
Members of the newly formed CBE JU’s advisory body held their first meeting today, to elect the group’s Chair and Vice-Chair, adopt its rules of procedure and discuss the setup of CBE JU.

The newly appointed ten members of the CBE JU Governing Board met today to take key decisions on the first steps of the partnership. The Board elected its Chair and Vice-Chair, as well as established its rules of procedure and adopted a list of decisions to be carried over from BBI JU, among other topics discussed during the meeting.
