About

The FRACTION project developed a bio-based insulation foam from lignocellulosic material derived from eucalyptus-tree waste. The foam is one of the end-use applications enabled by the project's fractionation of lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose streams.

The insulation is designed to provide performance comparable to conventional fossil-based alternatives while reducing the carbon footprint of the material. It also creates a construction application for non-edible woody biomass.

Key benefits

  • Uses eucalyptus-tree waste as a material source
  • Provides a bio-based alternative to fossil-based insulation foam
  • Designed to deliver comparable insulation performance

Application

  • Building insulation
