VIOBOND has demonstrated impregnated paper using a thermosetting resin in which lignin replaces part of the fossil-based phenol used in conventional phenol-formaldehyde formulations. The resin contains approximately 70% lignin-based content according to the supplied product information.
The impregnated paper is intended for plywood overlays and interior laminates, where durability and industrial performance are important. The application demonstrates how lignin-based resin can reduce fossil chemical use in established wood-panel products.
